The two services sound similar and cost very differently. Here's exactly what changes between a standard visit and a deep clean — and when you need each one.
Almost every cleaning company offers both a standard clean and a deep clean, and almost none of them explain the difference clearly. The result is customers who book the cheaper option and feel let down, or book the expensive one when they didn't need to. Here's the actual distinction.
A standard clean handles surfaces you interact with every day. Counters, sinks, and appliance exteriors in the kitchen. Toilets, tubs, showers, and mirrors in the bathrooms. Floors vacuumed and mopped throughout. Dusting on furniture, shelves, and sills. Trash out, beds made. It's the visible layer of the home, and it's what keeps a house feeling maintained week to week.
A deep clean goes after accumulation — the things that build up slowly enough that you stop noticing them. Grease inside the oven and on the range hood. Hard-water film on shower glass and fixtures. Dust on ceiling fan blades, vent covers, and light fixtures. Grime settled into tile grout. Fingerprints and cooking residue on cabinet fronts. Baseboards, door frames, and switch plates. Behind and underneath appliances and moveable furniture.
The practical difference is time. A standard clean on a typical three-bedroom home is a couple of hours of focused work. The same home's first deep clean can take two to three times that, because deep cleaning tasks are slow by nature — degreasing, descaling, and detail work don't respond to speed.
So when do you need which? Book a deep clean if it's your first professional cleaning, if it's been more than six months since the last one, if you're moving in or out, if you're preparing a property to list, or as a seasonal reset in spring and fall. Book standard cleaning for everything else — that's what recurring service is for.
The pattern that works best for most homes: one deep clean to establish the baseline, then recurring standard visits to hold it, with a deep clean once or twice a year to catch what routine work doesn't reach. It costs less over a year than repeatedly booking deep cleans because the home never gets far enough behind to need one.
If you're unsure which your home needs, ask for a walkthrough. We'd rather quote you accurately than sell you the more expensive service by default.
